ROUTE 42: THE FANTASTICAL GENRES IN THE CITY OF BARCELONA
This year, we at Festival 42 are suggesting visits to part of the city through the gaze of the fantastical genres in all their senses. After all, the Catalan-Speaking Lands are the repository of a longstanding genre literature tradition, and Barcelona has often been a prime setting. This is why for the first time, there is a route through the city based on non-realistic literature. The journey that Inés Macpherson has planned for us begins with a story by Manuel de Pedrolo which precisely invites readers to play with the city space with maps.
The visit will go through emblematic landscapes in the city, such as the Ateneu Barcelonès, the Cafè de l'Òpera and the Wax Museum, and at each stop, you will discover how the works of classic authors like Jaume Fuster and Pere Calders are associated with the city, without ignoring contemporary authors like Antoni Munné-Jordà and new voices in the genre like Marc Pastor and Roser Cabré-Verdiell.
