REVOLUTION OR EXTINCTION: DYSTOPIAS, UTOPIAS AND VICE-VERSA
As the successful Nordic series The Arkitekt has highlighted, dystopia is an inherent part of today's debates about architecture and urban planning. In fact, this is natural, because cities change just as societies evolve. In fact, with the new challenges facing us in ecology, politics and the climate, metropolises must seriously consider the direction they will take, and fantasy genres incorporate critical, creative and often more daring approaches than the realists. Do cities have to evolve to adapt to the new needs of their inhabitants? Or is it the other way around? What role should architecture play in the construction of utopias? Or, on the contrary, can this discipline become a dystopian element? Jaume Valor and Eloi Juvillà, architects and authors of books dealing with these issues, will reflect on these issues in a talk focused on architecture as a mechanism for change.
