ANTHOLOGY: INFINITE UNIVERSES IN 10,000 WORDS
What would become of fantasy genres without short stories, or even worse, without anthologies? The compilations of new and old short stories, the cornerstones of the sector that are sometimes unfairly forgotten, are not only very much alive in our country, but are often projects run by some of the best specialists we have. This is true of the the four genre anthologies brought together by this roundtable, with stories written by the most outstanding classic and current authors you can think of, compiled by four masters with long careers behind them. Víctor Martínez-Gil will present Una Terra, més enllà. Històries catalanes de ciència-ficció durant la Guerra Freda i el franquisme (Sfabula), a compilation of 22 short stories written and published between the 1940s and ‘70s, including classic authors such as Pere Calders and Manuel de Pedrolo, as well as others associated with realist literature, like Anna Murià. Job Peró will be speaking about Obscura 3 (Obscura Editorial), the third volume of his veteran collection, Diez relatos, which offers new literary voices and their vision of obscurity, through fantasy and horror short stories. Similarly, Beatriz García Guirado, the coordinator of Ellas, las extrañas (InLimbo), offers an anthology of female Spanish authors who write on the fringes, crossing the frontiers between genres and flourishing on the periphery. And lastly, Jordi Casals, the editor of Spècula, offers Tàndems fantàstics, consisting of 10 short stories, each co-written by two authors, where anything goes, from clones and space pilots to artificial intelligence, demons and camels.
