Trees of local interest
The Catalogue of Trees of Local Interest lists the most valuable specimens of trees, palms and bushes in Barcelona’s streets and private gardens. Their inclusion in this catalogue ensures their conservation and development conditions and ensures and that they cannot be removed under any circumstances.
The cataloguing process is covered by the Environment Byelaw approved by Barcelona City Council in 2011. The choice of species is the responsibility of the Cataloguing Commission at the request of Parks and Gardens’ staff, individual citizens or organisations. The Commission submits the proposal to the Parks and Gardens Board of Directors and, once they approve it, final approval must be given by the Full Barcelona City Council.
The main factors taken into account when including a tree in this catalogue are it rarity, aesthetic qualities, historical value, age and size.
