Camphor tree

Avinguda dels Montanyans, 30

Observations:
This is a tall and well-developed specimen unique in the city’s gardens. This species was used to produce natural camphor – all its leaves exude this smell – until synthetic production became popular. It is native to tropical and subtropical areas of Japan, Southern China and Malaysia, where it forms dense forests. It brings back memories of the time, now long gone, in which these trees were intensely exploited for chemical-industrial purposes.
