The "City of El Born. Barcelona 1700" collection analyses in detail the period of Barcelona history that stretches from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries to the middle of the eighteenth. This volume is devoted to a study of all the different kinds of festivals and other celebrations, of which there were many, held throughout the year. One was Carnestoltes, or Carnival, which was bigger in Barcelona than elsewhere. The study is the starting point for tracing some of the features which define present-day society.
