- Behind the Scenes
Not too many years ago in Barcelona, there were fishmongers on La Rambla; motorcycle and car races on Montjuïc; a dog track in the middle of the city; and no beaches along its coastline. In Estació de França railway station, rivers of people carrying suitcases descended from the bridge over the train tracks. This pre-Olympic city is portrayed in this book by self-taught photographer Jordi Pol.
His photos portray the Barcelona of the
sixties, seventies and eighties with a style that is reminiscent of street
photography, in that it is intimate and focuses on people’s movements and gaze.
Through Jordi Pol’s images, older generations can take a nostalgic look back on
the Barcelona of their era, while younger people will discover an imaginary
that will surprise them as much as or more than what they see every day through
their phone.
