A year on and the Festa Major or big annual festival is back at Sants, on the city’s move active neighbourhoods, festively speaking. The festival is structured around 24 August, the saint’s day of Sant Bartomeu / St Bartholomew, the neighbourhood’s patron saint. This year’s celebrations will run from Saturday, 20 August to Sunday, 28 August. As is now customary, the festival has an official programme featuring all the events and activities taking place in the neighbourhood’s participating streets and squares. This edition will see eleven streets and squares decked out for the occasion.

Saturday, 20 August

Dancing and displaysfrom popular culture groups. Featuring the Gegants de Sants, the Tabalers [kettle drummers] and Diables de Sants and artists from the show “Expressions del món”. The event will finish with a “pilar” or one-person-per-level tower display from the Castellers de Sants. At 7 pm at the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Festa Major’s opening speech. Given by Elies Campo. At 8 pm at the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Fireworks display to open the Festa Major. At 8 pm at some streets of the neighbourhood.

Sunday, 21 August

Sardana dancing. Featuring the Cobla Llobregat. At 11 am in Carrer Valladolid.

Habanera singing. Performed by the group Montjuïc. At 10 pm in Carrer de Vallespir de dalt.

Monday, 22 August

Sardana dancing. Featuring the Cobla La Principal del Llobregat. At 5.30 pm at the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Awards ceremony for the decorated-streets competition. At 7.30 pm at the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Habanera singing. Performed by Mar Endins group. At 7.30 pm in Carrer Guadiana.

Tuesday, 23 August

Habanera singing. Performed by the group Xarxa. At 6.30 pm in Carrer Sagunt.

Human towers. Human-tower-making workshop for kids and adults, followed by a human-tower rehearsal on the street by the Castellers de Sants. Starts at 7.30 pm at Cal Borinot (Comtes de Bell-lloc, 49).

Habanera singing. Performed by the group Pirats pel Mar. At 9.30 pm in Carrer Papin.

Sunday, 28 August

Pyromusical. This will mark the end of the Festa Major’s programmed events. At 10 pm at the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Final fireworks display for the Festa Major. At some streets of the neighbourhood.

Saturday, 10 September

Festa Major Concert. The Festa Major de Sants may be over but the Municipal Band will be giving a truly special concert. At 7 pm at the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.
