Pastorets del Foment Martinenc - Abraxas Teatre
More than thirty people, children and adults, make the performances of the Pastorets del Foment Martinenc, put on by Abraxas Teatre, possible. The group stage their own adaptation of the traditional nativity play by Josep M. Folch i Torres, which they perform every year around Christmas at the Foment Martinenc in the Sant Martí district, as well as doing some street performances with a wooden set that can be adapted to any space.
Abraxas Teatre have been doing the Pastorets (Shepherds) since they were founded in 1978, as the Foment Martinenc's theatre section. It is organised into three different age groups. For more than 10 years it organised the Foment Martinenc Theatre Competition, which started up again in 2012, and is a member of the Coordinadora de Barcelona de la Federació de Grups Amateurs de Teatre de Catalunya, the Coordinadora de Pastorets de Catalunya and the Coordinadora de Teatre Clot - Camp de l'Arpa.
The Foment Martinenc, awarded the City Medal of Honour in 2012, is a leisure association set up in 1877. It organises sports, cultural and recreational activities, and has sections for women, hiking and chess, as well as the Esbart Sant Jordi traditional dance group and the Abraxas Teatre.
