Every year around Christmas time, the Foment Hortenc stages the Pastorets (Shepherds) in its theatre. More than 50 people are involved and they perform the Josep Maria Folch i Torres version. Apart from this nativity play, one of the association's other highlights is the musical comedy Tomàquet (Tomato), which has been staged every May since 1949.

Some Horta Casino members set up the Foment Hortenc in 1917 with the idea of turning it into an educational and recreational society, as well as promoting and organising cultural events and events to popularise Catalan culture. Theatre is one of the association's more prominent activities and they offer performances of their own productions along with those of outside companies. They have a theatre school as well for young members, aged 9-17, who also perform in the association's theatre at the end of each year.
