Pastorets del Centre Catòlic de Sants
When Christmas comes around, the theatre group at the Centre Catòlic de Sants perform the Pastorets (Shepherds) in the centre's theatre facilities. In fact, the centre's performing arts section, set up in 1890, has its own school, the Escola de Teatre and is in charge of staging this traditional nativity play, based on the Josep Maria Folch i Torres version, every year.
Besides theatre, the Centre Catòlic de Sants, founded in 1878, organises a range of cultural, educational, sports and recreational activities, as well as choir singing with the Coral Estel. And the different sections always keep in mind the its founding principle of helping to educate people in the Christian way of life, on the basis of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The centre has played and still plays an important part in Sants' social and cultural life, as a meeting point and a place for promoting lots of initiatives in addition to its own. Recognition of this vitality came in 2003 when the Catalan government awarded the centre the Creu de Sant Jordi (St George's Cross).
