Pastorets del Casal Font d'en Fargues
The El Casinet theatre group have been staging Els Pastorets del Casal, based on the traditional shepherds' play by Josep M. Folch i Torres, at Christmas since 2011. They are accompanied by the Coral Font d'en Fargues. Both the theatre group and the choir belong to the Casal Font d'en Fargues, a centre with the facilities for putting on the Pastorets (Shepherds).
The origins of El Casinet can be traced back to the 1960s, to the small theatre at the Centre Montserrat Xavier, a school in the Hostafrancs neighbourhood. After a period in the Sants neighbourhood, the group stopped performing and it was not until the end of the 1980s that they began rehearsing and returned to the stage again. They are currently based at the Casal Font d'en Fargues, in the Horta-Guinardó district, a centre they share with other neighbourhood groups involved in areas such as culture, sport, youth and leisure, public participation, religion, education and senior citizens.
The centre is owned by the City Council and run by the Associació Casal Font d'en Fargues, an association set up with the express purpose of keeping the educational, leisure and artistic activities going there. The refurbished building was originally built in 1928 by the Noucentista architect Adolf Florensa as a cooperative, recreational and cultural centre.
