Pastorets del Casal Catòlic de Sant Andreu de Palomar
One of the social and cultural centres in the city that puts on the Pastorets (Shepherds) at Christmas is the Casal Catòlic de Sant Andreu del Palomar. This Catholic Centre has been staging Josep M. Folch i Torres' play since 1965. Prior to that they performed L'estel de Natzaret (The Star of Nazareth), the lyrical drama composed by Ramon Pàmies in 1891, with music by Msgr Miquel Ferrer, which premiered at the Centre Catòlic de Gràcia in 1903. Although the centre does not have a theatre group of its own, the members of the various sections take responsibility for putting the play on.
The Casal Catòlic de Sant Andreu del Palomar was founded in 1919 and has the following sections: chess, table tennis, the traditional dance group Esbart Maragall, the Taca painting group and the Benavinguts group, which promotes social and cultural initiatives. Other groups meet there too, for example, the theatre company Lírica de Sant Andreu, and they stage a number of theatrical performances throughout the year.
