The Banda Simfònica Roquetes de Nou Barris, set up as part of the sardana dancing group the Agrupació Sardanista l'Ideal de Clavé de les Roquetes, gave its first public concert in July 1989. But the band started up in 1987, including members from the two music schols in the district, the Conservatori Municipal and other musical groups in the city.

Since its beginnings, it has given more than 700 performances in Barcelona and a large number of other locations in Catalonia, where it performs in concerts and cercavila pprocessions, and it has taken part in parades and popular culture meets. It has also performed further afield in Spain and some European cities. In 2008, the band travelled to Bejing to play in the Olympic Games.

In 1999, 2004 and 2009, accomapnied by the cobles La Principal de la Bisbal and Montgrins the band gave anniversary concerts in the Palau de la Música Catalana.

The Banda Simfònica Roquetes de Nou Barris has recorded seven CDs, which cover a wide variety of musical styles.
