In February 2014, the Moixiganga de Barcelona was presented in the cathedral, during the Santa Eulàlia festival, sponsored by the moixiganguera dance groups from Vilafranca del Penedès and Valls. The Moixiganga de Barcelona is the first troupe in the city to stage this dance, which represents scenes from the Passion of Christ using human figures. It is a performance linked to the ball de valencians, Valencian dance, and castells, human towers.

The group's aim is to preserve the tradition of this dance, while at the same time innovating and bringing new music to it as well as novel figures. In fact, this group has its own tune, the «Moixiganga de Barcelona», composed by Jordi Fàbregas. Among other unique elements, the dancers' clothes show references to the architect Gaudi.

The forms of the Moixiganga de Barcelona are mainly created for outdoor cercavila parades and processions, and are made up of three blocks: the pas del cartró (cardboard step), the coixinet (little cushion), and various passos de la passió (Passion steps).
