Obra Sardanista Violetes Del Bosc
In 1970, the year of the 25th anniversary of the sardana dancing group, the Violetes del Bosc, some of its members set up the Obra Sardanista Violetes del Bosc, dedicated to promoting and raising awareness of the traditional Catalan dance, the sardana. Since that year, the new association has been organising the dances that take place every Saturday in Avinguda de la Catedral, of which there have already been more than 1,500.
As well as these dances, the group arranges a series of regular concerts dedicated to its members. These take place in the auditorium of the Casal del Metge and the programme provides the opportunity to hear unusual works which are not often performed. They have also collaborated on recordings, in organising sardana courses and they have participated in the Congress of Catalan Culture.
In addition to all this, the group has arranged concerts to celebrate particularly important anniversaries of the Colla Sardanista Violetes del Bosc sardana group, at the Palau de la Música Catalana. In 2005, the concert was for the inauguration of the musical contest Violetes del Bosc – Memorial Fèlix Martínez i Comín, and was held in the Gran Teatre del Liceu. The competition ran for four years and the winning works debuted in Barcelona, Sabadell, Lleida and Girona.
In 1995, to mark its 25th anniversary, the Obra Sardanista Violetes del Bosc started up the gathering of sardana dancers that takes place each second Saturday in June in Avinguda de la Catedral.
