The Grup Sardanista Oreig dance troupe was set up in 1985 as a traditional sardana dancing group for young people, and in this category they were Catalan champions for three years. Later they became a colla gran, a large group and managed to come fourth in a campionat absolut, a complete championship.

In 2008, the Grup Sardanista Oreig stopped competing and since then they have been totally dedicated to teaching sardana dancing. They organise courses in the Centre Cívic de Torre Llobeta and the Casal de Gent Gran de Virrei Amat.

Each year since 2004, they have organised a concert in Plaça del Virrei Amat on St George's day, and in 2011 they added a meet for veterans' groups to the celebration.
