Rom cremat
Rom cremat, or burnt rum, is an alcoholic drink made of rum, coffee beans, sugar, lemon peel and spices, particularly cinnamon. Once all the ingredients are in an earthenware dish, the rum is heated and set aflame for ten minutes so that some of the alcohol burns off. Afterwards, good and hot, it is ready to serve.
In Catalonia, Rom cremat is the traditional drink to accompany the singing of havaneres, songs based on a 19th century Cuban dance rhythm, and it is what sailors used to drink in the morning to warm themselves up. It is a universal beverage which, little by little made its way from the coast to the rest of the country, even the interior.
Havanera singing accompanied by rom cremat is a typical activity and is found in the vast majority of festes majors, main festivals, and other celebrations.
