Beginning of June in the Baix Guinardó neighbourhood, Horta-Guinardó district

Within the Horta-Guinardó district, the Baix Guinardó neighbourhood is an area with its own special character. It was a well-known fact that the area, traditionally, was very close to Vila de Gràcia, at the turn of the 20th century, because of the summer houses that were there. Today, the Parc de les Aigües –where the district's HQ is– and the Ronda del Guinardó are the nerve centres of the neighbourhood, and are where the majority of the cultural events take place.

The brief but intense festa major, the main festival of the neighbourhood, comprises a series of sporting, popular culture and fun activities. There are also community meals, historical itineraries where you can discover the past of the area, and dances in the evenings, as well as events for kids and older people.

Origins

The festa major has been held since 1978.

About festivities

Highlights

Lacemakers' gathering. Each year any lacemakers who so wish can get together in the Parc de les Aigües, where there is a joint demonstration of the art of lacemaking.

Human-tower meet. At midday on the Sunday of the festa major is a trobada castellera, a human-tower meet, at the Ronda del Guinardó. Normally a group from Barcelona takes part as well as several others from different places across the country.

Correfoc. To close the festival is a correfoc, a fire run, which goes from the district's HQ to the gates of the Parc de les Aigües. The devils' group from the nearby neighbourhood of Can Baró, the Fures, are responsible for the fire and pyrotechnics.
