Feminist Conversations. Working groups wrap up debates prior to the second edition of “Feminist Conversations”

The “Feminist Conversations” programme seeks to be a participatory forum for discussion and conversations among women, organisations, associations and government institutions, sparking innovation and informing policymaking in strategic areas to achieve true equality. The second edition will conclude on 4 and 5 April at the Born Culture and Memory Centre.

Barcelona City Council seeks to work with feminist organisations on an ongoing basis to develop and update gender policies, ensuring they reflect the voices and everyday experiences of women in the city. Last year, it launched the “Feminist Conversations” project, back for a second edition this year.

In recent months, six working groups were established, each with a different focus: women and information and communication technologies (ICTs), the feminisation of poverty, forms of gender-based violence, neighbourhood-focused policies, and masculinities. Participants in these conversations included Noelia Torres, director of Factoria F5, which seeks to offer training and employment opportunities in the technology sector; Sílvia Bofill, an anthropologist and professor in the University of Barcelona’s Department of Social Anthropology; Beatriu Masià, co-founder of Cooperativa Tamaia and an expert in gender-based violence; Mònica Gelambí, who hold a PhD from the URV in Tarragona and a European doctoral degree; Gemma Linares, a social educator and coordinator from the Equality and Gender Area of Intress; Daniel Tejedor Tarriño,a psychologist specialising in masculinities, and Martín Frasso, a social anthropologist and expert at the city’s Plural Masculinities Centre.

Participatory events in April

Following the meetings of the six working groups, on 4 and 5 April there will be participatory events open to all at the Born Culture and Memory Centre, where all the groups will share their work and hold a conversation on the proposed initiatives.

Stay tuned for sign-up information and the programme of events, with speakers including Mary Nash, a pioneer in studying the history of women, gender and feminism in Spain, and Roy Galán, a writer, columnist, influencer and activist for LGBTI rights.
