Completion of the rollout of the ‘Konsulta’m’ network to detect and prevent psychological suffering among young people and teenagers between the ages of 12 and 22. The service is now available citywide, with eleven support points for young people, families, professionals and organisations working with people in these age groups.
Five new points have been opened in the Eixample and Gràcia districts since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has allowed the Konsulta’m service to expand by around 138% in the city over the last year.
In 2020, the service handled 734 enquiries from 448 young people, 58% of them women. In terms of user ages, 18% were aged between 12 and 14 years old, 40% were between 15 and 17 and 42% were over 18. As regards reasons for approaching the services, 44% of users did so on psychological or emotional grounds and 29% due to problems with relationships.
The Konsulta’m service is part of the Barcelona Mental Health Plan 2016-2022, agreed on with the organisations and services making up the city’s Mental Health Board and designed to offer an agile and specialised response, with no need for referrals or appointments, and to address as swiftly as possible the suffering and sensation of distress among young people, preventing it from worsening or becoming chronic.
