A new government measure includes 45 steps to generate confidence in young people in the city and provide them with opportunities for the future. The goal is to mitigate the consequences of the socio-economic and health crisis among youngsters and for them not to get left behind. The measures are to be implemented this year and next year and have a budget of 2.5 million euros.
According to the survey of young people in Barcelona presented in November 2020, over half the city’s youth felt the Covid-19 crisis and the pandemic would have negative or very negative effects for their future. Given the situation, the City Council saw the need to foster young people’s empowerment by offering them skills tools, support and reliable information for them to freely take the decisions which will help them build their life projects.
The new measure ‘Young people in mind 2021-2022’ updates the Plan for teenagers and young people (PAJ) 2017-2021 according to the new needs resulting from the Covid-19 crisis. The document sets out 45 proposals in six spheres: education, employment, associations and participation, welfare, housing and facilities and young people’s services. These new actions come in addition to more than 180 already set out in the PAJ.
Academic advice programmes, self-knowledge and emotional support workshops, information capsules to combat addiction to screens and respond to changes in affective and sexual relationships, the promotion of youth emancipation and the improvement of access to services and young people’s facilities are just some of the 45 steps set out in the new measure.
