The COAC will be hosting the presentation of the winning project in the curatorship competition for the 2026 UIA World Congress of Architects on17 January. The 2026 congress is being held in Barcelona. Entitled “Becoming, architectures for a planet in transition”, the project is a joint initiative by the architects Pau Bajet, Mariona Benedito, Maria Giramé, Tomeu Ramis, Pau Sarquella, Carmen Torres and José Zabala.

Besides the winning architects, participants in the event include the Minister for Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez; a representative from the Catalan Ministry for Territory; the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni; the vice-chair of the International Union of Architects (UIA), Teresa Táboas; the chair of the Higher Council of Associations of Architects in Spain (CSCAE), Marta Vall-llossera, and the deacon of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC), Guillem Costa Calsamiglia.

As well as institutional support, the organising administrations are providing the funding in equal parts for this edition of the World Congress of Architects, which has been recognised as an event of exceptional public interest in the Act on General State Budgets for 2023.

“Becoming, architectures for a planet in transition” was the project chosen by a highly prestigious international jury. Based on research into architectural practice, the initiative takes time as its central theme, understood as a vector for change and transformation, with a further six sub-topics linked to the main theme. The project also draws on a solvent and extensive network of collaborators that will help generate an intense and relevant debate around the profession.
