Future Plan for the historical fabric of Can Peguera

Between Parc Central de Nou Barris and Parc del TurĂ³ de la Peira lies the district of Can Peguera. Surrounded by the apartment buildings of adjoining neighbourhoods and major thoroughfares such as pg. Fabra i Puig and pg. Valldaura, Can Peguera represents an oasis of calm. Its name comes from an old farmstead where glue was manufactured, and it is like a small village in a big city. This lifestyle has survived thanks to the mobilization of local people calling for the conservation of the cases barates, or cheap housing district.

The houses were built in 1929 as a short-term solution, but almost 100 years later the houses are still in use and need to be improved so that people can continue to live in them for a long time.

To promote activity, urban redevelopment includes a passageway that connects the main social centres in the neighbourhood and removes obstacles from the pavement, making pedestrians the protagonists in the street. Interventions of the plan for the future neighbourhood aim to improve access and connections with TurĂ³ de la Peira and the strip or balcony of amenities. The steps between c/Beret and c/Vila-seca have been renovated and a lift built to connect the three levels.
