Olympic port

After 30 years of history, the Olympic Port is changing course to integrate the port into the city and make it a safe, quality public space, linked to the sea, that everyone can enjoy. It is a space committed to the environment and sustainability, open to the sea and the city. One of the interventions carried out to this end is the construction of an approach that connects av. Litoral with the Moll de Mestral wharf. This new approach, designed for pedestrians and also for vehicles, guarantees the permeability of the space and removes barriers and differences in level to ensure continuity with the Vila Olímpica district and bring the port closer to the neighbourhood. The new avenue will end at the Moll de Mestral wharf, where the terraces of night-time venues will be removed to create a large 10,000 m2 plaza with areas to stroll and shaded spaces.

On the Moll de Gregal wharf, meanwhile, the new restaurant area also opens onto Nova Icària beach via an approach that further strengthens the dialogue between port activity, coastline and city. This makes for greater ease of access to the future Gastronomic Balcony, planned as a promenade with vantage points and seating areas that will invite people to sit and relax.

At the same time, the seawall becomes a great vantage point overlooking the water, fully accessible from pg. Marítim, the seafront promenade, and integrated into the urban fabric. This dike has been reinforced, strengthening the safety of the Olympic Port in the event of high seas during storms.

The Olympic Port will play a decisive role in reactivating the city’s economy. It is set to become a new attractor for the blue economy, a sector that combines economic and social development that is compatible with the conservation of marine ecosystems. The centre of the project is the Moll de Mestral wharf, where former night-time entertainment venues are becoming a 2,600 m2 hub for companies and entrepreneurship.
