Parc d’Antoni Santiburcio

Parc d’Antoni Santiburcio is part of the creation of new green spaces on the site of the old Sant Andreu barracks in the context of the transformation of an urban area to give the city two large areas of five and six hectares of land in the form of new green spaces, facilities and housing.

The variety of the vegetation, the year-round changing colours and biodiversity are distinctive features of the park. In addition, it incorporates sustainable drainage techniques to manage rainwater that is infiltrated into the subsoil.

The children’s playground covers an area of 6,706 m2 and has a multicoloured rubber floor surrounded by shrubs that separate it from the streets and an area of flowerbeds. But the most outstanding element is an impressive fountain that functions as a water garden, a climate shelter to cool off during the hottest months. It has 234 jets in the ground, arranged in 13 rows that function independently, allowing the water to reach different heights and offering a range of jump modes. In addition, each jet is equipped with LEDs to create choreographies and play with colours as programmed. The fountain is designed to put on a show in a play area with complete safety. The water treatment system guarantees optimum water quality and is one of the measures included in Barcelona’s Climate Plan.

This fountain is walkable —a paved, open space in the park— to make it more accessible while functioning as a versatile place to play, and to free up space for other uses when the fountain is not working.
