New Metro stations. Zal / Riu Vell

Line 10 South of the Metro now has 11 stations. In this way, the Metro network reaches workplaces on the Zona Franca industrial estate, a key hub of economic activity in Barcelona’s metropolitan area. Line 10 South (Zona Franca - Collblanc) transports 21,000 passengers a day and increases the network. With its extension as far as ZAL / Riu Vell, Line 10 South is now 8.5 km long, and the overall Metro network will be extended to 124.7 km and 164 stations (125.4 km and 166 stations including the Montjuïc funicular), of which 36.4 km and 35 stations correspond to lines with automated driverless trains, like L10 South.

Foneria station is underground and is accessed via a shaft, 25 m in diameter and 36 m deep. The station is on two levels, because the underground stretch of the line consists of a two-level tunnel and an intermediate floor slab. It has been treated as a single space, where the lobby, communication shafts and platforms all form part of one setting.

ZAL / Riu Vell station, meanwhile, has been built on the surface, outdoors, and raised above the street. The lobby is accessed from the street, and the train platform is on the first floor.

Like the last three stops on the line, it is located on a viaduct that runs along Street A of the estate, formerly used as a technical branch for trains to enter and leave the maintenance base at the ZAL workshop. It is located in a bustling economic area with a high concentration of corporate headquarters, warehouses and facilities, and one of the entrances to the port area.
