Glòries I assisted housing complex for the elderly

Specially designed for the elderly, this assisted living facility comprises rental apartments of the Municipal Housing and Rehabilitation Institute (IMHAB) that aim to offer the elderly in the city of Barcelona adapted, safe, comfortable housing, integrated into the community, that provides the support they need. There is a concierge service, telecare, geriatric therapies, and cleaning and personal support, aimed at people aged 65 or over who do not own a home and who carry out day-to-day activities for themselves.

Glòries I is a mixed-use building that houses apartments for the elderly and two public facilities. The 105 homes in the building are arranged in three blocks laid out in a fan shape on a two-storey plinth that contains a health centre and a neighbourhood social club.

On the roof of each building is a communal laundry, a covered porch with clothes lines and a solarium patio with urban allotments. At the plinth roof level, each building has a space of relation directly connected to the outdoor terrace and equipped to hold workshops or activities organized by the social services that manage the building. This communal terrace, at the level of the treetops and equipped with benches, plays a twofold function: for residents to enjoy views of the surroundings and to integrate the three buildings into a single community. The hybrid building thereby guarantees integration into the urban environment and consolidates the social fabric.

The smallness of the social housing units is made up for by the communal spaces.
