Pere IV hub

The redevelopment and infrastructure works along Pere IV have resulted in a more user-friendly thoroughfare designed for pedestrians, with a single traffic lane, a two-way bike lane, wider pavements, new street furniture, LED lighting and pneumatic waste collection. The intervention leaves behind three-lane traffic to make way for a new one-way street, in the direction of the river Besòs. As part of this transformation, the pedestrian crossings, traffic lights and signalling of the intersections have been adapted.

The intervention also aims to highlight the area’s rich historical heritage. The industrial past of Sant Martí is recovered and preserved with a historical signage project throughout almost the entire district. A series of 16 panels have been installed with historical information and images referring to the area’s past and its industrial and pre-industrial memory, permanently located at strategic points along the street.

Furthermore, the District of Sant Martí, in collaboration with neighbourhood and citizen organizations coming together on the Pere IV Axis Committee, is working to revitalize the entire area socially, culturally and economically as part of the transformation of this street. The idea is to make Pere IV a hub for economic, social and cooperative activity, giving priority to companies linked to the territory.
