From a square with traffic and fumes to a green square for pedestrians, the Clearing, located in pl. Glòries, is a grassy esplanade designed for citizens to enjoy nature. It is a new social and educational revitalization project, occupying a part of the space that was once entirely dedicated to traffic and is now the city’s new green lung. The Big Clearing in Les Glòries is an invitation to relax, chat, read or work in peace, with a service of loungers, tables, chairs and parasols, now consolidated as an outdoor facility with a leisure programme that is free of charge and open to everyone, organized by the surrounding organizations and amenities.

In the park, in the form of green axes and itineraries for pedestrians, three of the city’s main thoroughfares converge: av. Diagonal, av. Meridiana and Gran Via. Here, 472 trees have been planted, added to the 46 already growing in this area with its 9,078 m² of green space. The park also has 23,840 shrubs planted in biodiversity nodes, flowerbeds and rain gardens, which contribute to efficient water management in the space.

The transformation of Les Glòries puts an end to local people’s historic protests and serves to interconnect the four neighbourhoods that surround it, improving its permeability. This means facilitating the social and economic relations of the 215,000 local people who live around it, but it is also designed as an urban space at the service of the city as a whole, visited by almost 20 million people a year.
