Diagonal-Besòs University Campus

The Diagonal-Besòs University Campus of the Polytechnic University of Barcelona is situated beside El Fòrum, between c/Taulat and Ronda Litoral, and is home to the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE). This site of innovation and knowledge, situated between Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, is one of the most powerful university campuses in sustainable engineering in Catalonia, with over 150,000 m2 of floor space for teaching, research, innovation, investigation and laboratories, business activity and services to the university community. The campus has also been set up with the desire to have a significant impact on the territory and to be a motor of social and economic transformation.

The campus is based on an urban planning layout that takes the city as a form of settlement as its model and, therefore, the street as its backbone. The choice of an urban model makes sense in a Mediterranean climate and culture that encourage walking and meeting in outdoor spaces like streets and squares.

A series of interventions has also been carried out to consolidate a powerful campus with over 66,000 m2 of space for students, teachers, researchers, companies and research centres, and 20,000 m2 of green space. It represents a new impetus for a project that goes far beyond the original buildings of the UPC to make it a space for interaction between the university community and local residents, not just for study and research, but also for living (including a student and researcher residence), innovation, and the development of business and leisure projects.

The complex is completed in urban planning terms with the Parc del Campus, which offers an image of landscape unity. The park connects the campus with the Besòs district, the Maresme region in Barcelona, and La Mina, in Sant Adrià, and facilitates connectivity with Parc de la Pau, the beach and the Port Fòrum area. In this way it becomes a central space both for the university community and local residents.
