Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, bar and restaurant terraces were expanded into public space. This expansion was initially improvised until it was decided to modify municipal byelaws on terraces with the aim of guaranteeing safe, accessible use of public space and facilitating the viability of the catering sector, at the same time preserving small traditional businesses.

At present there are eight approved types of platform, four linear models and four chamfered-corner models, manufactured by the firms Urbadis Microarquitectura, Escofet, LEKU STUDIO - Durbanis and Fablab-Alberch-Hortàlia.
