Mircea Cărtărescu
During this Dialogue, moderated by Sam Abrams, Mircea Cărtărescu will be talking about Dietaris 1990-2017 [Diaries 1990-2017] (Lleonard Muntaner Editor, 2024). Conceived as a dialogue with himself, it is the most extensive and complex map of Cărtărescu's mind.
Mircea Cărtărescu is a poet and narrator, and he has a PhD in Romanian Literature from the University of Bucharest, where he has been a lecturer. A member of the 1980s generation of Romanians, he has published books of poetry Headlights, shop windows, photographs, Love Poems, Everything, the epic poem The Levant, Love, Nothing and Poetry, which covers all of his poetic works. He has also written books of short stories Nostalgia, Travesti [Travesty], Why We Love Women, Beautiful Strangers and Our Love's Hazel Eye. In prose, the Blinding trilogy and Solenoid have established him among the most renowned European authors, and he is the most prestigious contemporary Romanian writer. In 2022 he published Theodoros, his “first” novel.
Among other awards, he has won the Romanian Acadamy Prize, the Von Rezzori, the Thomas Mann, the Prix Formentor and the FIL Literature Award in Romance languages. His work has been translated into over twenty languages.
