Lucía Lijtmaer and Rodrigo Fresán
In this Dialogue, moderated by Anna Ballbona, Lucía Lijtmaer and Rodrigo Fresán will be talking about their novels Casi nada que ponerte [Almost Nothing to Wear](Anagrama, 2023) and El estilo de los elementos [The Style of the Elements] (Random House, 2024). Two very different novels, but with a common theme: memory and its recovery.
Lucía Lijtmaer was born in Argentina, grew up in Barcelona and now lives in Madrid. She is a journalist, cultural curator, literary translator and university lecturer. Her published essays include Quiero los secretos del pentágono y los quiero ahora [I want the Pentagon's secrets and I want them now], Yo también soy una chica lista [I’m also a clever girl] and her acclaimed short essay Ofendiditos. Sobre la criminalización de la protesta [Offended. On the criminalisation of protest], which is in its tenth reprinting. In fiction, she has published the eagerly-awaited novel Cauterio [Cauterisation], which enjoyed tremendous success and has been translated into several languages. In 2023, she republished her first work, Casi nada que ponerte [Almost Nothing To Wear], which was well received by both critics and readers.
Rodrigo Fresán has lived in Barcelona since 1999. He is the author of Historia argentina [Argentine History], Vidas de santos [The Lives of Saints], Trabajos manuales [Manual Work], Esperanto, La velocidad de las cosas [The Speed of Things], Mantra, Jardines de Kensington [Kensington Gardens] (2004 Lateral Narrative Prize, finalist for the José Manuel Lara Foundation Prize), El fondo del cielo [The Bottom of the Sky] (Locus Magazine, “”Favourite Speculative Fiction in Translation: Novel 2018”, USA), Melvill and the trilogy La parte contada [The Disclosed Part], consisting of: La parte inventada [The Invented Part] (Best Translated Book Award 2018, USA), La parte soñada [The Dreamed Part] and La parte recordada [The Remembered Part].
