Henry Marsh
In this Dialogue, moderated by Eva Piquer, Henry Marsh will be talking about his memoirs, And Finally: Matters of Life and Death (Salamandra, 2023). Marsh explores what happens when someone who has been on the front line against cancer is faced with what could be their death sentence.
Henry Marsh studied Political Sciences, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford, before studying Medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London. He entered the Royal College of Surgeons in 1984 and worked as a senior neurosurgeon in the Atkinson Morley Wing of St. George's Hospital in London for over thirty years, until he retired in 2015. His first book, Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery, won the PEN Ackerley Prize and the South Bank Sky Arts Award, becoming an international bestseller, translated into over thirty languages. His second book, Admissions: A life in Brain Surgery, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in the biography category. Furthermore, Dr. Marsh has featured in two documentaries (Your Life in Their Hands, winner of the Royal Television Society Gold Medal, and The English Surgeon, which won an Emmy) and he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2010.
