I read Philosophy at the University of Barcelona. Having committed a large part of my life to social activism, the defence of human rights, and the right to housing, I now continue to defend these values from my position as Mayor. I was a member of the DESC Observatory, a platform made up of people and organisations committed to the study and defence of economic, social and cultural rights. In 2009, I was among those who led the founding of the Mortgage Victims’ Platform (PAH), and was its main spokesperson until 2014.

In 2014, together with some people from the academic world, and others involved in the residents’ movement and movements for the defence of public health and education, I promoted the Guanyem Barcelona project with the aim of standing for local election. As the election coalition Barcelona en Comú’s main candidate, I won the 2015 election. I became the first female mayor in the history of the city.

During my first term of office, we prioritised the fight against inequality, the promotion of a more sustainable city model, the defence of the right to decent housing, and the objective of making Barcelona a more participation-based city. Gerardo Lertxundi Albéniz is CEO of Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona. Rémi Parmentier, cofounder of the Varda Group consultancy has been an ocean advocate since the mid 1970s. Former founding member of Greenpeace International in the 1970s, and later former Deputy Executive Secretary of the Global Ocean Commission, Rémi provides strategic advice public and private organizations. Anna Pérez Pagès has a degree in English Philology (UB) and Journalism (UPF) and a diploma in Performing Arts (UAB and the Theater Institute). He has more than 20 years’ experience leading and participating in national and international R&D projects in the field of energy and in large international scientific facilities such as CERN or ITER. He is Director of Corporate Development and Technology Transfer at IREC where he leads strategic alliances and projects. He is also co-founder of Bamboo Energy, a spin off from IREC.

I have a law degree from the University of Barcelona. I was born in Manresa, but my professional career in the public and private sector has led me to live in the United Kingdom, Chile and Mexico. I currently live between Manresa and Vilanova i la Geltru, although I work in Barcelona as general director of Mercabarna, the food district of Barcelona. Previously I was Mayor of Manresa (1995–2006), Labour and Industry Advisor of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2006), President of the Port Authority of Barcelona (2007–2011), and General Director of the Grupo Suez in Latin America.
