Introduction
Barcelona's seashore is a complex place involving multiple stakeholders. Furthermore, as a frontier, it faces a large number of pressures and impacts, including those associated with storms and climate change. As one of the city's largest and most iconic open spaces, the seashore attracts many activities throughout the year, which leads to significant imbalances and, in turn, serious challenges.
The 2018-28 Strategic Plan for the City's Coastal Areas is a planning instrument that aims to organise and manage all the urban areas on the city's seafront. This involves identifying a series of strategic projects, some of which may be associated with a specific seashore area, and can therefore be shown on a map.
The map you are viewing shows the Coastal Plan's local projects, grouped by the following themes: "Maritime Dimension", "Maritime-Terrestrial Zone", "Sea Gateways", "Port of Barcelona", "Olympic Port", "Beaches" and "Other Area Projects". It should be noted that some of the Coastal Plan's projects do not appear on the map, because they are not inherently associated with one area in particular. These are overarching projects that have an impact on the seashore as a whole, tackling aspects involving biodiversity, environmental awareness-raising and education, climate change, the economy and governance.
