First bike lane section in Via Laietana now open
The new one-way segregated bike lane is on the side of the street nearest the Besòs, heading up Via Laietana from Pl. Antoni Maura to Pl. Urquinaona and connecting with the city’s cycling network. The bike lane is part of the transformation of the street to prioritise sustainable mobility, connections between neighbourhoods and local commerce.
The bike lane in Via Laietana connects with three new cycling paths in Pl. Urquinaona which are already open: a one-way lane in the direction of the Besòs and located on the left-hand side of the road surface in the square, on the side nearest the sea; a one-way lane in the direction of the Llobregat, located on the left-hand side of the central road surface through the square, and a two-way lane (sea/mountain) located between Rda, Sant Pere and Via Laietana.
The lane also connects with others in C/ Pau Claris, C/ Roger de Flor and Rda. Sant Pere.
Transformation of Via Laietana
The new bike lane is part of the project to transform Via Laietana, prioritising sustainable mobility, improving links between neighbourhoods and boosting local commerce.
The second stage of the project is now in progress, which includes the section from Pl. Antoni Maura to Pl. Idrissa Diallo.
