War has been shaping most aspects of social life for the last twelve thousand years, and continues to be a powerful force in shaping human behaviour. War has a deep - traumatic - impact on all aspects of life and, at the same time, is a «place» that awakens fascination. Given this situation, the pertinent question is: why war?
This publication features the reflections of a group of authors about war and the wounds it inflicts on people, spaces and landscapes. In includes articles by David Alegre Lorenz, Miguel Alonso Ibarra, Jordi Font Agulló, Carolina García Sanz, Marta Marín-Dòmine, Laura Muñoz-Encinar, Xosé M. Núñez Seixas, Javier Rodrigo and Francesc Torres.
The book also features the contemporary artworks from the exhibition 'Why war?' , that was held at the El Born CCM from 15 March to 29 September 2024. The pieces examine the multi-faceted phenomenon of war and, through a diverse range of aesthetic experiences, propose opening up spaces of clarity and thought that question the persistence of bellicose violence.
Taking part in the book launch are Jaume Muñoz, director of Cultural Heritage, Jordi Font Agulló, director of Memorial Democràtic and exhibition curator, Marta Marín-Dòmine, curator of the exhibition and director of the El Born CCM from 2021-2023, and historian Javier Rodrigo, author of one of the articles in the book.

Des de fa dotze mil anys, la guerra ha donat forma a la majoria dels aspectes de la vida social i continua tenint una gran força modeladora en els comportaments humans. La guerra provoca seqüeles profundes –traumàtiques– en tots els àmbits i, alhora, és un «lloc» que desperta fascinació. Davant d’aquesta situació, la pregunta vigent és: per què la guerra?
La present publicació recull les reflexions d’un grup d’autores i autors al voltant de les guerres i les ferides que provoquen a persones, espais i paisatges. Conté articles de David Alegre Lorenz, Miguel Alonso Ibarra, Jordi Font Agulló, Carolina García Sanz, Marta Marín-Dòmine, Laura Muñoz-Encinar, Xosé M. Núñez Seixas, Javier Rodrigo i Francesc Torres .
El llibre també mostra les obres d’art contemporani exposades a l’exposició « Per què la guerra? » , celebrada a El Born CCM entre el 15 de març i el 29 de setembre de 2024. Les obres interroguen el fenomen polièdric de la guerra i, des d’experiències estètiques diverses, plantegen l’obertura d’espais de claredat i pensament que qüestionen la persistència de les violències bèl·liques.
Intervindran en la presentació Jaume Muñoz , director de Patrimoni Cultural, Jordi Font Agulló , director del Memorial Democràtic i comissari de l’exposició, Marta Marín-Dòmine , comissària de la mostra i directora d’El Born CCM en el període 2021-2023, i l’historiador Javier Rodrigo , autor d’un dels articles del llibre.
La publicació ha estat produïda per El Born CCM i Serveis Editorials de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona .
