Rough sea alert activated
Due to weather forecasts and rising wave heights, the Basic Municipal Action Plan for rough sea conditions has been activated in the alert stage as of Monday, 4 November. People are urged to exercise greater caution and avoid going to the beaches. Please also be reminded that access to the beach breakwaters and entering the water is prohibited when the red flag is raised, currently the case at all beaches.

Rough sea alert
The City Police have been deployed along the coast to close off access to breakwaters and areas where waves are breaking to minimise risk to people.
This plan is activated at the alert level when there is a warning of rough sea conditions, a high likelihood of waves over 2.5 metres and when the city’s coastline is affected by strong waves, posing a risk to people or potentially causing damage to infrastructure.
Surfing, windsurfing and paddleboarding are permitted under the pre-alert and alert stages of the Municipal Action Plan for Rough Seas (PAEM) at each individual’s own risk. However, in exceptional circumstances, security forces may expressly prohibit these activities if they perceive a serious specific risk to public safety.
Additionally, at noon today, in response to the heavy rainfall in the city, the Municipal Action Plan for risk of drainage insufficiency was briefly activated in the alert stage but has now been deactivated.
