Discover the Gabriel García Márquez Library
Come and discover the best library in the world!
Opened on 28 May, 2022, the Gabriel García Márquez is the central library in the Sant Martí district. It won the award for the best public library in the world in 2023! The building has also received broad recognition.
The library specialises in Latin American literature and is named in honour of the famous Colombian writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, and who lived in Barcelona from 1967 to 1975.
Guided by the writer Jorge Carrión, we’ll take a journey through the recent history of books and libraries in the city, based around Gabriel García Márquez’s time in Barcelona, where he coincided with Mario Vargas Llosa and Carmen Balcells. With the idea that we are all 'lletraferits', that means wounded by words in the style of Cupid’s arrow.
