Held annually on the third Sunday in November, this commemoration pays tribute to the victims of road accidents and aims to raise awareness among drivers and institutions about the collective responsibility of avoiding them.

The ceremony was attended by institutional representatives and the road accident victims’ associations of P(A)T and Stop Accidents, along with the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR).

During the ceremony, a posthumous plaque was given to the family of the Barcelona City Council architect Judit Masana (1962-2016), who designed the monument in memory of road traffic victims.

The memorial is a steel bench eleven metres long with a series of perforated letters that can be read as they cast shadows when the sun shines.

The ceremony included the reading of poems written by various relatives and the laying of a wreath, concluding with a minute’s silence and various pieces of music.

The prevention of road accidents, and more specifically, artificial intelligence and the challenges this brings for road safety, provide the central theme for the 30^th Barcelona Road Safety Forum being held on Tuesday, 3 December.
