Europe Day is held on 9 May and commemorates the Schuman Declaration, which symbolises the commitment to European integration and peace through cooperation.

Over forty institutions and organisations have organised activities for all members of the public, from children and young people to specialists in political debate. All activities have a common thread in education and culture, in line with the European values of democracy, integration and dialogue.

During the evening of 8 May, the façades of the City Hall and the district offices will be lit up in blue, as will eighty other iconic spaces around the city, such as the Arc de Triomf, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de la Música, the three crosses in the Park Güell, the Torre Glòries, the Edifici Vela and the Torre Telefònica. In the Parc de l’Estació del Nord, secondary school students from various city schools will be unfurling a large European flag.

A space in the Parc de l’Estació del Nord will also be transformed into a large and typically European café from the first half of the 20^th century, promoting bars and cafes as places of European culture and social life. During the evening of 9 May, there’s also a concert with performances from Suu, Loverman, the Portuguese guitarist Marta Pereira da Costa and a session by DJ Mauro Licci.

Twenty municipal libraries will be hosting the cycle ‘Li deien Kalòpsia’, a series of shows for families and children in May and through to the middle of June.

On 9 June, the day of the European Parliamentary elections, the Fundació Catalunya Europe will be organising comprehensive election day coverage, with music included.

Besides the City Council, participants in the initiative include the Catalan Board of the European Movement International, the Fundació Catalunya Europea, representatives from the European Commission in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, the Barcelona European Parliament Office and Barcelona Provincial Council.
