Tourism continues to climb back to levels from 2019

Nearly 2.3 million tourists came to the city in the summer. The figure is still 8% lower than the number for 2019 but demonstrates the steady recovery since the pandemic. The volume of overnight stays in the city reached 7.5 million and matches the figure from that period, with visitors staying in the city for longer.

The number of domestic visitors was 13% higher than before Covid. Even so, Barcelona continues to be a clearly international destination. The 84.9% of tourists staying in hotels came from other countries, with the highest volumes coming from the USA (211,240), France (144,242) and the UK (128,350).

Spending by tourists staying in the city reached 1.140 million euros, a 20% increase compared to 2022 and a 9.3% increase compared to 2019.

Barcelona has 100,000 people in jobs linked to the tourist sector, a level similar to 2019. The difference is that permanent work contracts account for 52%, compared to slightly over 10% four years ago.

First Turisme de Barcelona General Assembly

The figures were announced during the first Turisme de Barcelona General Assembly for the current term of office. The meeting was chaired by the Mayor, Jaume Collboni, who highlighted sustainability, digitalisation, quality jobs and efficient management as priority areas for ensuring the good health of tourism in the city.
