Tibidabo is celebrating the start of the school year with Physics Week, the amusement park will be filled with a host of shows, interactive activities, and scientific experiments for all ages this weekend, 7 and 8 September. The initiative, which will transform the rides into physics testing grounds, is part of a partnership between Tibidabo and the Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Engineering at the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – BarcelonaTech (UPC) to promote interest in science and technology across different levels of education.

Visitors to Tibidabo will receive a scientific passport, allowing them to access and enjoy the various activities on offer at the park. The Plane, the Pirate Ship, and the Tibidabo Express will be the main experiment sites, where participants can explore speed and motion on the rides and then share their results.

As well as turning the attractions into large experimentation area, Physics Week will bring a wide range of science and physics-related activities to Tibidabo. Together with educators from the UPC, jazz band MobyDixie will be kicking off proceedings with the show ‘MateMusiC,’ which fuses the worlds of music, physics, and mathematics. In the afternoon, the CreaTibi Hall will be hosting the escape game “Engranatges perduts” [Lost Gears], where participants will solve a range of puzzles to discover the contributions made by different women to the advancement of science.

On the Sunday, the group OpenBrains will be launching the scientific programme with the show “The Three Neurons”, which demonstrates the process our brains follow from the moment it receives a stimulus to generating a response. In the afternoon, the CreaTibi Hall will again be transformed into the escape game “Engranatges perduts”. Physics Week will conclude with a grand finale featuring Bi, the Tibidabo mascot, and the retro-futuristic characters of the Nautilus Association.

Science will return to the amusement park on 21 September with a new event co-organised by Tibidabo and the Sant Pau Research Institute aimed at promoting the dissemination of research with a gender perspective, and encouraging careers in science.
