The UB also signs up to the Ethical and Good Governance Mailbox
The University of Barcelona (UB) has signed up to the Ethical and Good Governance Mailbox by the City Council and Xnet. The university is the eleventh institution to reproduce this pioneering tool to prevent bad practice and fight fraud, which at the same time protects the confidentiality, anonymity and identity of the user. The Ethical and Good Governance Mailbox was launched in January 2017 as a secure two-way channel for e-participation and for citizens and municipal staff to report corruption and other bad practice. Barcelona was the first city in the Spanish state and in European to create a tool using open-source software and the Tor encryption network.
Developed and implemented with voluntary collaboration from the citizen platform Xnet, the tool uses open-source software which can be modified and replicated, providing its authorship is attributed equally to Xnet and Barcelona City Council. To date, the mailbox has been implemented by the Government of Catalonia, the municipal councils of Lleida, Terrassa and Mollet del Vallés, Pompeu Fabra University, the public company Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, the anti-fraud offices of Catalonia and Valencia, the AMB and the antifraud agency for the Balearic Islands.
