The music and fireworks spectacular concludes another edition of La Mercè
The music and fireworks spectacular (piromusical) concluded the programme for La Mercè, bringing the city’s annual festival to an end. The city’s inhabitants were able to watch the display live on television, as well as from their own homes, with fireworks launched from four different sites around Barcelona. Here’s a short summary. The display paid tribute to Havana, the guest city for this year’s Mercè, at the same time marking 150 years since the festivities started being organised by the City Council. There was also a special tribute to mark the centenary of the first concert by Pau Casals at the Palau de la Música Catalana, a year later than planned, as well as the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven.
