Work to start on the new green corridor in Gran Via in 2024
The approval of the first stage of the project includes the remodelling of the section of the street connecting with the Parc de les Glòries on the side of nearest the mountains. Once completed, an area of 70,000 square metres will have been transformed to create a large central pedestrian corridor, with areas for people to spend time and play in, helping to connect the adjacent neighbourhoods and promoting sustainable mobility. The first stage of the work includes a pedestrian corridor 21 metres wide with trees and spaces for people to relax in, wider pavements (between 5.25 and 7.35 metres wide) and a curbless traffic lane for bicycles, vehicles belonging to local residents and service vehicles.
This work should take around a year. Once completed, the project for the side nearest the sea will be approved and executed. In this case, the plan is for a pavement four metres wide and a lane for local residents and cyclists, plus a space for the tram and buses in both directions.
Greenery will take on a special role in the whole area, with 450 trees and areas with shade and bushes added.
