Carrer de Sant Antoni Abat enters second stage of redevelopment
The second and final stage of redevelopment will focus on the section between Carrer de la Cendra and Plaça del Pedró, continuing the improvements already made to the previously completed section. The aim is to enhance accessibility and give priority to pedestrians and cyclists. The works include the creation of a single level street with new paving and the addition of urban furniture. The main sewer will also be rehabilitated, new storm drains installed and a new section of the waste collection network built. The project is expected to take six months, lasting until February 2025.
The redevelopment works will be carried out in a coordinated manner between the two pavements to ensure that at least one side of the street remains accessible at all times and that access to commercial and residential properties is maintained.
Traffic disruptions
The street will be completely closed to traffic between Plaça del Pedró and Carrer de la Cendra (excluding the intersection of Cendra and Sant Antoni Abat).
A first control point will be set up at the junction of Carrer de l’Hospital and Rambla del Raval, allowing access only to residents, services and users of the public car parks. A second point will divert vehicles along Carrer de Sant Llàtzer, Carrer del Carme, Carrer d’Erasme de Janer and finally Carrer de la Riera Alta.
The following streets will become dead ends, with access restricted to residents and services:
– Carrer d’en Santcliment, with access and exit via Carrer de la Cera.
– Carrer d’en Botella, with access and exit via Carrer de la Cera.
– Carrer del Bisbe Laguarda, with access and exit via Carrer de la Riera Alta.
Traffic will be able to leave Carrer del Príncep de Viana, Carrer de la Cendra and Carrer dels Salvadors via the section of Carrer de Sant Antoni Abat that has already been redeveloped.
Relocation of containers
The containers at number 8, Carrer de Sant Antoni Abat, and those on Carrer del Bisbe Laguarda have been moved to Carrer d’Erasme de Janer, where they will remain until the works are completed.
