The auditorium at the Barcelona International Convention Centre (CCIB) was the scene for the annual ceremony marking the annual day of the Barcelona City Police. The event included medals for long service, medals for merit, plaques of recognition from the corps and a tribute to retired staff. The ceremony highlighted the work and commitment to the city from police officers with the corps, as well as other security and emergency corps and organisations.
The following awards were given:
- 75 internal medals of honour for career paths and significant acts by members of the corps.
- 27 internal medals for 25 years of service for members of the corps reaching this milestone.
- 50 medals of honour for external merit for work and collaboration with the City Police.
- 5 internal plaques of recognition for various teams and services within the City Police.
- 15 plaques of recognition for external groups and organisations for their collaboration with the corps and good public service.
- 76 gifts for people retiring from the corps this year.
One of the most emotive moments in the ceremony was the tribute to the actions of a City Police patrol to assist a baby showing signs of suffocating. The father ran into the street to call for help and found a police car on patrol, which quickly took them to an emergency primary healthcare centre (CUAP), which had been alerted by the police and had a team of medical staff on standby. Thanks to this quick response from the officers and the medical staff, the girl began breathing normally again. The ceremony included a performance by the composer Manu Guix.
